I picked up this trunk at a yard sale and the plan was to restore it for a dear friend. Searching for more information, I posted photos on a web site and Armand was kind enough to let me know it is dated June 9/72. How would one go about starting a project like this? My husband and I used to refinish furniture but we have no experience with vintage trunks and don't really know where to start. We don't want to ruin the integrity of the piece but would like to spruce it up a bit. Many thanks! Thanks for the comments. I just added a photo of the latch.

Those are very ununual draw bolts. I have seen a similar one only one other time on this site. At first I mistook them for the traditional tension flip mechanism that was broken or missing. You have a great pic of the draw bolt that appears to work by the sideways movement of the lever within the mechanism. Do I have this right? I will look back to try to find the pervious posting I am referring to.

I just checked out Rosalee's photos and they two trunks are very similar. Do you think the middle latch is original?

The pic of the latch is not clear enough for me to see adequately but from a distance I would venture, yes. Is the lock plate a different metal? There does not appear to be any structural damage around the lock to suggest it has been replaced or repaired.

everydayss (right now number 15) is another with the unusual drawbolts that I had missed before.
