I found this at a yard sale years ago and still haven't found any information about it. Any thoughts? The top of the piece has a hole but no threads and there's no maker mark that I can see. Many thanks! I'd also like to add that it's not made of wood, but my guess is cast iron, if that helps any.

I may be way off with this but I believe they are made of boxwood. I also believe they are holding a chalice up to be cleansed. The image would quite probably have been copied from the 18th century. I said image not this item. All of us have heard the term "Pig in a Poke". The term comes from Muslims having declared pork not clean and unfit to eat. Pork was passed along in a poke (bag) usually after dark. The pigs holding the chalice were asking for cleansing. I read about pigs with a chalice years ago and it is vague today. Just my two cents and an idea to pursue in your research.

A friend had suggested earlier that it's a candle holder but it's so unsteady, I'm not sure that would've been practical. Thanks!
