The framed image is 19.25 x 24 inches with the gold painted frame being 31 x 35 inches. I don't recognize the signature of this artist and not sure if the date is 1998 or 1898. If anyone knows of this artist/photographer or has an idea of how this image might have been created, I would appreciate your input. Thanks in advance!

Photographic enlargement of the 1880s- 1900 time period. Your date is surely "1898".

      Very typical for the era.

When details were lost through the process, they were "touched up" and enhanced to try and recapture detailing.

Many photo collectors and dealers refer to these as charcoal images.

Thanks Scott! Any idea of who the photographer might be based on the signature?

      Looks like "Marceau & Pa??".

Maybe an online search will give you full information.
