It could be Black but I tend to think not unless the picture was taken after he left Nam. He took control of the Cu Chi base camp in early 69. I was there in 68 as we were clearing jungle and establishing the base camp. We were pouring cement for a mess hall when he came to inspect our progress. His chopper landed and off he went on his tour. We ran out of re rod and needed to do something. The good general probably never did find out where the rotors to his chopper went. There was one hell of a search and investigation along with threats. Unfortunately we were all hard at work and didn't see a thing. Cu Chi wasn't a nice place but such is war. This doesn't look like him as I remember him, although that was a few years ago.

fhrjr2 i just looked at goggle who was in charge of Jusmag 61-63 My whole family lived like kings children these years, Maids, Drivers Gardner's and a gated huge house rented by the US Government. My dad flew the Secretary of State with Generals all around from Bangkok for these years. My Dad friend who worked on the planes were with him from 1959 -1967 in Thailand

Those planes wouldn't have made it from Bangkok to Nam without stopping to refuel. General Black was a total a$$ hole unless he was in the media and knew someone was watching him. Black was a much more robust healthy looking man. That is why I doubt this is him. The man in this picture hasn't seen combat (boots on the ground) in years. I would sooner think he is a figure head who awards medals. That doesn't at all detract from your Dad. It is just a fact that some Generals drive a desk and others have boots on the ground (although they are few). I will wait for scottvez to comment. I've seen Black in person but wasn't interested in being around when the axe fell so to speak.

You may or may not be able to trace the markings on the planes. Your father is being decorated by a general but your father has not one ribbon or medal. You might want to research Air America during those years. The planes connect and so does your explanation of how you lived. Been there done that and terribly sorry I did.

My Father was in the Army Air Corp 1841 and received the distinguished Flying Cross in 1945 and other medals before this picture was taken, As a Staff Sargent, when he was drafted back in 1961 for flying in Korea he was made a Lieutenant.
After Korea we the family lived in Puerto Rico
