My Grandfather bought this trunk in San Francisco Chinatown in 1940. It is cedar lined inside. I have never seen boat carvings like this. Is it from China? Do you know how old it might be? Kind of wood? Authentic chinese lock and latches. Saw one similar photo of a trunk like this...

I'm sure we have somebody who help. Never had a real interest in Mid. E or Oriental stuff (Admire theirs skills,but), think I can safely say, E. of India & W. of Midway. LOL. I do have a real appreciation for Oriental carvings. Beautiful chest & welcome to CW.

I'm waiting too. I've played with inlay, checkering & relief in wood, but always feel humbled when looking at pieces like this.
