This is a reproduction. Made between 1960's thru now. The good news, quality repros can sell for almost as much as an orig..
Darn. Kick in the pants to shoot though. How many grains of powder do you recommend Blunderbuss?
What caliber is it?
What caliber? WHAT CALIBER? It's in the title and in the description. Put the two finger drink down blunderbuss. :))))))))))))))))
45 cal
Jono, I don't put a beer down for anybody unless they already have their gun out! Sorry, I wasn't paying much attention to pics. I sold a .45 TC about a yr. ago but don't remember what I was shooting exactly. I think I was firing a .455 gr bullet with a 60-65 gr. charge. Make sure you are using black powder!!! I've been at this a long time. I get a bit carried away on the pdr. charge. The old-timer advice is to add to the load until you get a "crack", which means the bullet has broken the speed of sound, & that's "it" I'm certainly no expert, but have found best accuracy at just under the "crack"
Do they call that, "having the crack" lol
Thanks blunderbuss!!!
No Jono! Squatting is the least stable for shooting! The "plumber's" stance.LOL
And all this time I've been using the plumbers stance and buffalo sticks. Lol
Thanks for the love Sean, tom, Manikin and blunderbuss :)
I just picked up one from a very good friend of mine, sadly though the barrel is in bad shape, is there any place I can get a new barrel? Also if I take a bore bush and attach it to a long enough rod, would using a power drill cause more harm then good? Or if I bored it to .50, would it cause safety concerns?
If a blk. pdr. bore is not cleaned, the pdr. reside attracts moisture just like salt & is just as corrosive. There just isn't much you can do except get the barrel lined or get a new one. You can find services & new barrels online. Check Dixie Gun Works.
Thankyou blunderbuss for the quick response. Sadly I can't find a barrel that's like that one any where. I will shoot you a pic soon. I really don't know what to look for.
What is the make of the gun ? Is it a 1" oct. barrel ?
I don't know, I know it's octagonal, as for the size I won't be able to tell till I get home, 12 into my 48 hour shif, but it appears pretty thick and has a long rail going the length of the underside when you remove the stock
A pitted barrel is worthless for accuracy. We'll get it worked out.
