    Can any one tell me what this Bennington Pottery Piece is, or what it is used for? It measures 5 inches tall with the lid attached , X 5 1/4 X 5 1/4 inches.
    The removable lid has a slot across the top about 3 3/4 inch long and 1/2 inch wide, which is inset in the lid by about 1/4 inch. It is marked Bennington Pottery Bennington Vermont *1845, The lid has number *1845T. It was purchased at a farm estate sale. Any information about this piece would be appreciated. Thanks.

      I think you will find this is Bennington Potters and not Bennington Pottery.

      this looks like a money collection box. where you can leave a donation. my grandfather worked at bennington potters a long time ago. i have some small square planters from there.

      Bennington Potters started up in 1948 and is still in business. They are very good about answering questions if you send them a photo along with the question. The * before the mold number indicates Bennington Potters. They also have a site online if you want to do some research. Don't confuse them with Bennington Pottery because there are decades and hundreds of dollars of difference between them.
