Please read my prior post. I would love to restore this, but am not skilled enough. It is a gem. TOP is leather. I think Sotheby's worthy... NOT THAT I WOULD SELL, mind you! It's in storage, so again I need better pics. I just found out they are auctioning storage from my family home. Must go handle that asap. Half of our memories are lost already.. well the tangible ones and who cares about that. Have lost so much more. But still I like to hold on to my family as much as I can.
look at the legs, that's the problem. I have to get a fourth cast... can't do it myself, though I'd like to.
Or just buy one: http://www.ebay.com/sch/Parts-Salvaged-Pieces-/162913/i.html

It's a great piece. There appears to be shadows on the apron wear the legs attach. If there are , it would indicate the piece had squared tapered legs ( cherry more than likely). It was spray painted (overspray on the bottom) so gel stripper and a finer steel wool will strip it. Tape off the leather Be careful with the stripper and leather.
If you are in NYC ,go Christies and Sotheby's when they sell furniture. Look at the pieces and examine them. My Christie's representative told me to develop an eye and feel for the high value pieces. Find old sales catalogs and notice they put dimensions in the descriptions . I was Christies largest trade client in the south in 1998-1999. You're doing the right thing by educating and searching for treasures. One find can change your lifestyle. By sides the hunt is so exciting.
I hope you're able to restore this beautiful piece of furniture.
Merry New Year TlovesS! =)
