My family bought this probably at a yard sale back when I was very young. I remember my mom having the seat re-caned because the original was in such bad shape. My mom is an antique collector with a very astute eye but I know nothing about this rocking chair's origins. I am wondering if it might possibly be a Shaker rocker and when it might have been built. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks!

I think you might be better served to call it a Shaker style chair. What little joinery visible in the photos doesn't appear to be Shaker craftsmanship. The chair none the less has value. The side of the rocker I can see looks like birds eye maple.

I found what looks to be a similar chair in my grandparents basement, it's just missing the rockers on the very bottom. I would to know what you find out.
