This is an interesting piece I have picked up lately. It is a long stemmed pipe that is in six pieces and in the original leather case. It appears to be mid 1800's. There are three sections that are ivory, two sections that are wood and one section carved horn. It appears to be European in origin. However, I am unable to find any information out about the piece. Was hoping someone could give me more information on the pipe. Thank you for looking.

Thank you again Tom...I wish someone out there had more information about it. I am pretty sure it is from the Germany France region, but not for sure. I am guessing the age from the age of the box...may be newer may be older, just a guess.

Thanks Jay, already checked it is not an opium pipe. When I bought it thought it was an opium pipe. This is a tobacco pipe. These pipes would actually rest on the ground, must have had some one else light it for them. If you look closely to the front of the bowl, you will see red and that is where it has worn the black off from rubbing on the ground. One of the other reasons I bought it was due to the fact that it did have the box which was in outstanding shape.

I was passing by and came back to this. I just took the time to enlarge the pics & get a real look. Studied it a bit, and the workmanship is as good as it gets. I'm impressed!

      Dear NativeJeweleryLovers,

I saw this pipe set and I simply had to write you, it is a beautiful set. In my opinion this tobacco (not opium!!!) pipe comes from the Eastern side of Europe, most likely Chzech Repoblic (back then Tsjechoslovakia) or Hungary. I am basing this on the model of the pipe bowl, but even more on the type of fitments (lid and stub-stem). These are typical for wooden and meerschaum pipes from that region in the first and second quarter of the 19th century.

The pipe in itself is nice but not all that special. The fact that you have a complete set with custom horn stem and case makes this a very rare, valuable and desirable piece.

I realize it is not-done on this website (in advance my apologies) but I signed up only to try to contact you concerning this set since I would love to offer it a new home. Would you mind contacting me? I would much appreciate it. (contact at arjandehaan dot com)

      sincerely,

      Arjan
