I found her in abandoned building. I'm guessing this I'd shade for her. I'm wondering if I should have her restored. I know I have to get some clothes on but don't know exactly what era.

Hello everyone I forgot to add I found her wedged in an old sofa but has weather signs but still beautiful i think.. The cabin I found it was built in the 1950s an old homrstead. If that helps at all.
      Thank you

It is wonderful but it is hard to see the detail on her . Could you post another photo of her close up ? Great find . I have seen Hula skirts on lamps like this but I would not be sure since she is not clear enough in photo .

She looks like her hips move from what I can see . Here is one that is close if not the same . These have become very popular

A Dodge lamp from the 40's and 50's. How is the wiring? Have you tested it? Do the hips move? The only clothes would be some fringe, fitted loosely over her hips.
    5. lettyluvsantiques, 11 years ago
Thank you wow 40s! No I haven't tested her the wiring doesn't look too good I will get close up pictures. I was going to get some brasso or tarnix but I'm not sure if its cooper or brass. I was excited just to find her.

Careful! This is copper plated. Tarnex and Brasso are really corosive. First try cleaning it with soapy water, but don't submerge it, just wipe it off to remove any dirt. I would suggest simichrome polish, but would be careful not to be to agressive. Just polish lightly.
You will probably need someone qualified to rewire her. She has both a lamp and a motor in her hips to make her hula skirt sway. the switch should allow you to light the lamp or make her hips sway or both. It is a three way switch. Good luck

Oh thank you I really want to her restored i did start to polish sadly but not to bad but stopped immediately after I read I didnt know what I had she was in was bad shape when I discovered her still a little I don't know how to rewire hope not too expensive.

She has a three way switch normally so you can turn on just the light or the light and the swaying skirt. The skirt was just a fringe and their should be two little clips attached to the rotating pieces that emerge from the hips. The fringe is then attached to a wire which is put into the clips and Viola, she dances the Hula. There are a couple of variations that have different arm positions. I had one years ago that was purchased by a couple in Hawaii. Great fun. I think that one of the Elvis films included one of these lamps and that made them very interesting to a lot of people too. Sorry, can't remember which film it was.
