I found this mixer in a Salvation Army store in Brunswick, Maine. I plugged it in right there in the store and voila! It still worked! It's stamped "1938" on the bottom. I'm not sure if this is the year it was made or not. If it is, then it was sold and purchased during the Great Depression! That means it would have been purchased by a rich family. The handle and the bowl-stand are made with Bakelite which somewhat places this piece in the 30's or 40's. No matter what, it's a very cool item!

I have one just like it that belonged to my mother. It's been a part of my life as long as I can remember. I looked it up online this morning because my daughter came over yesterday to use our oven to make cupcakes to take to church because her oven is out. She started asking questions about Mother's mixer, how old it is, etc. I told her I knew for sure she had it in the 50s but that it could be older and that I'd look into it and see what I could find out. I never thought about turning it over and looking at the bottom. My mixture still works just as well as it did when Mother used it. My daughter said yesterday that she loves the way it smells when I'm using it because it reminds her of her grandmother. The motor emits a slight smell, not like anything is wrong with just, just a certain distinctive scent. It reminds me too of mother every time I use it. I can still see her left hand turning the bowl while she scraped the side with a spooon with her right. I'd never dream of getting a new one. It'll belong to my daughter someday. Thanks for your post.
