heavy cast iron door curved outward at the top, little rust, reinforcing ridges along back edges on the top of the back, the numbers 1358 appear in large raised numbering on top back, on the top side facing sideways is the number 49 also in raisd print. Peice looks great, No holes on sides to attach to anything, There is one knob on the top made from plate metal formed into its shape with a flat ended oldish looking flathead screw holding it onto the peice. There is one hole at the bottom ceneter of the peice about the same size. There is a silvery remmnant coating on the front and the knob as though it once had a plating of some kind.
The design has greek features. a nude woman with children one a satyr playing double horned flutes in the wilderness.
peice is about 3 ft tall, about 20 lbs
not sure how old it is or what company made it or the rest of what originally went with it
Emailed a guy at a company that specializes in fireback plates and he seemed to think it was an eary 20th century oven door. So now Im confused again. Its kind of cool to find something that I cant easily identify as usually Ive been able to. Still Id love yo solve this mystery.
Still trying to find the age and maker as well.
ah ok its actually a fireplace cover not an oven door or fireback plate, took my dad about 5 mins to figure this one out, go home team.
