CDV of Woman from Clarksville, TN with tax stamp

A big thank you to Lansing for his posting of location photos-- I thought that I'd share some of my location collection for Clarksville, TN.

Early Southern views are highly collected.

The tax stamp allows for fairly specific dating. The tax was in effect from 1 AUG 1864- 31 JUL 1866. Interestingly, there are tax stamped images that fall out of that window. Due to the times and sometimes slow relay of information-- images with cancellations as late as AUG/ SEP 1866 are sometimes found. These images are eagerly sought by collectors. Be careful as spurious examples are out there as well!

This particular example is nice in that the cancellation is "W.H. A & Co."-- the photographer's initials and confirming it is original to the CDV (See photo #3).
