Ribbed balls that are connected, wild color combo, black raspberry prunts and two holes in one piece. This post was inspired by the yellow and blue WELZ balls that I shared with a group of glass collectors. What we found is that they are not too common. There are some differences in the three posted here...with the first two being very similar and the third one (which I just purchased) having a slightly different shape (more egg shaped). The three are all about 5 1/5" wide and about 3" tall.

    1. Classic WELZ Décor and signed on bottom "Made in Czechoslovakia". (photo complements of Ray Macy)

    2. Orange and mottled maroon, not sure if it signed. WELZ?? (Photos complements of Mary Gawle)

    3. Yellow and Red mottled, not signed. WELZ?? ( I own this piece)

Love to get every body's thoughts on these unique pieces and if any one has photos of other examples, please post them.

I have seen many bohemian shapes that have a similar theme, there are even ones that string three four or five together (although smooth- not crimped) used as ashtrays or table arrangements

what makes these astounding to me- how where these made? how can you have two ground rims? the pattern was clearly blown from the side, a pattern could not match if the pieces were blown then fused together. how did they blow from the side and cap one end with a berry prunt?

cool balls thomas! (you set that up i know...)

Welzebub- good point on the different ribbing. I wonder why...?? I noticed that but forgot to make a comment on it...

yeah, many welz vases come in this kind of crimped surface texture- look at the baskets or knuckle vases. I have a whole folder of embossed welz.
...Kralik did this too but different

Making them.... my guess is they blew them long (like a wot dog) decorated and all... then they put them in a metal mold and blew them in. after that they applied a berry prunt then cut the piece and glued the other berry prunt on (check for glue) last step was to drill or gring the openings on the side (they nay have both looked the same before cutting. p.s. if both the berries are fired on they used a holding gadget as previously discussed by craig
