This is a recent item I won at a local auction. When I won it I didnt really know much about it. After the auction I had a person approach me and tell that this item is an original Native American War Club belonging likely to an east coast tribe. This is made of a nice dark heavy wood with a single blade and studded handle and is carved to look like some kind of animal ethogy. This is over 2ft long and has a tag attached that is stamped W.A.C. Coll. I was hoping someone could maybe offer more insight on this piece.

Fascinating! Another sleepless nite trying to identify. Put a magnet to the blade & other parts & tell us the results.

Well I did the magnet and it sticks to the blade and tacks. The tacks on this are not made of brass I can see that made of something else. The blade looks maybe to be iron forged.

It looks like a nice decorator piece.

The wood doesn't show any true age patina-- looks to be "stain aged". Also the modern stamp tag is a red flag for repro/ modern.

I cant rule out the fact this might be a reproduction but the wood does show natural patina on the club I might have not taken photos that accurately show that the tags are just there to ID the piece that belonged in this gentlemans collection.

Of course the iron/steel would be of European origin & the club is of a correct design. I'm leaning toward it being original but can't really tell from pics & it's not my real field of interest. Don't recall anybody on CW who is knowledgeable about such things either. You need to find an expert as this is the kind of thing that is faked/counterfeited.

Looks like a reproduction of a ball and spike battle axe. The original wouldn't have had a machine ground edge on the steel spike. If you Google native American indian ball and spike battle axe (or club) you will find images of originals to compare it with.
