The story goes that my grandfather had this since the early 30's and found it while out collecting trash for the city. My father had it on the mantle of his fireplace since 1969 and now I keep it in a curio cabinet along with a hundred other odd's 'n ends.
My father says the appearance has not changed at all in all those years. It is carved from a very dense wood (weighs in around 4/5 pound), one pearl eye in the buffalo was lost somewhere along the line and a replacement hastily added, it appears the original pearl eye is real. The eye's of the man are made of black glass beads and the curly wire "hair" on the buffalo are made of steel and brass. The "hair" must have taken considerable time to insert as each piece was laid sideways.
A curious piece I would love additional information on and appreciate any/all input. I had thought it may be a Vietnamese water puppet.
Measures: 9 long, 10 high, 4 wide, weighs 4/5 pounds.
Would love any/all thoughts on this piece.
It's fantastic!! Love the details on the bulls head, and the expression on that Asian's face. Really great piece.
Same Aim love his expression. Very nice Blacksheep
I have one with a child asleep on it back.
