I thought I would end this year and begin the next one with this colorful and "cheerful" vase.
There is a lot going on here:
- Four layers of glass - the thick inner layer is clear, then a white layer, then the colored "splatters", then another clear layer on the outside
- There are four broad vertical bands of color - light blue, orange, green and dark purple - all on white.
- There is a small amount of dark blue "here and there" also.
- The green has tiny particles in it (not adverturine I don't think - see the closeup)
- Last, the vase has an interesting shape
The vase is 8.25 inches tall, has a cut & unfinished top and is unsigned. I don't know who the maker was.
As you may well know, in ancient Roman myth, Janus was the god of beginnings and endings. He is usually depicted as having two faces, since he looks simultaneously to the future and to the past. The Romans named the month of January in his honor. Thus he is in the new year and looking back at the old one. I tried to convey that thought in the first "double vase" picture and with it wish you all a very Happy New Year !
Thank you Leah. Best wishes to you and yours in the new year.
