This cool victorian snake brooch is missing a stone, but I will repair it when I have time for it. I would love to find more victorian snake jewelry, its so romantic! Victorian jewelry often used an entwined snake to symbolize infinity and eternal love.
This brooch has a c-clasp and a tube hinge, so I would date it around 1880-1900. It was made by the FIX company, which was founded by François Savard. They were well known for their heavily gold foiled jewelry. They used brass jewelry and they applied a heavy 14 or 18 carat gold foil over it. They also made lots of art nouveau-style jewelry. At one point there were 300 people working for the FIX company! François Savard got rich with his company and he eventually was able to buy a castle.
I love that story, I hope you enjoy snake jewelry as much as I do.

Compliments for the buy and the research for infos on Fix!
This was used as watch-pin, holding the watch alone or with the "sautoir" to prevent the watch attached to it from bumping.
Love the snake, and the form!
