    (756 items)

Vase bought yesterday at the first Wenty fair of the year.

It is marked Orrefors NU 3300/6.
    That would be Nils Landberg.
I think it dates to the early 1950's.

It looks to be a pared down version of a Jack in the Pulpit. I really like the flow of the maroon to blue to clear. In this case the maroon is less pronounced than others on the net. The blue is a bit more dominant.

It comes from a series called "Tan'si" or "Tan-si"

No idea about the meaning of name of the series.
    Perhaps it has Chinese references.

    Height: 12.2 ins (31cm)

    Nils Landberg (Swedish, 1907-1991)

"Nils Landberg studied at the Konstindustrieskolen in Gotenborg from 1923 to 1925 and then trained at the newly established school of engraving at the Orrefors Glasbruk for two years, with his compatriot Sven Palmqvist. Landberg subsequently studied in Italy and France before returning to Sweden, where he began working under Edward Hald (1883-1980) as an assistant and engraver at Orrefors.

Around 1935, he began creating his own designs for the company and became a member of its in-house design team. His engraved glassware from this period was shown at both the 1937 Paris "Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques dans la Vie Moderne" and the 1939 New York World's Fair.

During the 1950s, Landberg experimented with abstracted and attenuated forms using either clear or delicately tinted glass. In these pieces, he pushed the medium's tensile strength to its limits, giving the designs a powerful inner tension.

Landberg's famous 'Tulipanglas" (1957) with its slender waist was blown as a single piece and received a gold medal at the Milan XI Triennale in 1957. He also designed tableware and lighting as well as decorative doors and windows.

Landberg retired from Orrefors in 1972, and fourteen years later the Orrefors Museum held a retrospective exhibition of his work."

Kevin is there any other colors in this vase .
    11. vetraio50 vetraio50, 11 years ago
The only colour way is this maroon and pale blue.

It came in a variety of shapes I think.
      The series is 3300.
I believe this shape to be 6.
      I have seen a smaller version i.e. 5.

On the net you will see some of the others shapes.
      This one is 3:

      That is spectacular!
There is this similar effect in the Tulip vase goblets that are to die for:

Kevin your collection is awesome and you have such an eye for picking great things! Wenty fair ! Really? Another for my list but I probably wouldn't get the finds you do. See my "eye" is still developing!
I love the colours in this and it is elegant but I'm sorry, Jack in the Pulpit vases seem too anatomically sexual to me and I am never sure if I like them or not!

      Where are you?

I know what you mean about the JIP's but ....

I have one Leerdam Unica by Iep Valkema which is very confronting.
      I see them as challenging!

Ahh. Eastern and Western association differences. I'm clearer on it now. Btw I looked at this series in the bowls and they are gorgeous too but the ones I saw didn't have the same colour beauty as this vase.
