I found this and another really beautiful bowl at the Alameda Flea Market today. This bowl has very nice proportions and consistent thinness. i love the blue decorations! does anyone recognize where and when it is from? i was told by the seller that both bowls are 18th century and from Korea. I'm trying to remove a stain from inside the other bowl which is larger. this bolw is 6 inches across.

I guess it's from Annan(Vietnam today) in 17c. But common.

Thank you shrine! i'll check it out. why do you think 17th c and not 18th c?

i did find some comps which look a little bit similar. the most similar one said that the designs were a vietnamese double-happiness symbol.

Hi cult, I thought it was from 17c Vietnam as they were made in large volume in those days when Chinese ceased porcelain export due to domestic turmoil. Then Vietnam ones faded out when Chinese product came back to market in 18c.

These are Swatow wares from China, mostly 19th-20th c., but could be earlier. Found throughout Southern China (Fujian, Guangdong), Southeast Asia (including Vietnam), and where ever Cantonese Chinese immigrants go (https://sha.org/assets/documents/Choy%20-%20pottery%20research%20-%20final%20version.pdf).

Pinghe is Zhengzhou is Swatow ware. Swatow (Shantou) and Zhengzhou are the places where the ceramics were being exported.

You can easily find these throughout old villages . . . I have several dozens of these back in my ancestral village in Taishan. I have seen them in antique shops and Chinese American museums in the US. They show up in archaeological digs in SF, LA, and sites in NV and UT.

In Vietnam, they have so many they were broken into pieces to create designs and calligraphy on building facades. I am currently writing an article on this.
