Small vase (12.5 cm) with white, brown and blue glaze, early 20th century, by the Kähler Pottery in Denmark. This type of glaze - applied with the so-called horn-glaze technique - and decoration is probably what is most commonly associated with Kähler although the studio produced pottery in vastly different styles over the years.
The Kähler factory is probably the most renowned pottery workshop in Denmark. The factory was started in Næstved in 1839 by Herman J. Kähler and was in existence until 1974 when it was sold to Næstved Kommune (County). A number of very talented artists worked for Kähler over the years, the most influential one of whom was probably Svend Hammershøi, brother of the painter Vilhelm Hammershøi.
Marked with the Kähler mark, 'HAK' (after Herman A. Kähler) Danmark. The word on the inside of the vase is 'Næstved' (the town where the Pottery was located).
