Zuni Fire and Buffalo Dancer Bolos made by Elliott Qual0 circa 1960's
This sensational and highly collectible handcrafted vintage multi-gems inlay bolo by famous award winning Zuni artisan Elliot Qualo (d). Elliot Qualo was the son of Myra Qualo, born sometime in the 1930s, but did not start producing jewelry until about 1960. His creations were always award winning pieces and highly coveted by collectors all over the world. He produced from 1960 until about the late 1970s, upon his passing. This piece is marked on the back Bennett Pat. Pend. C31. This marking lets us know that it was made between 1957 and 1967. This piece has not been cleaned and has the old patina look that collectiors prefer.
This gorgeous and very desirable piece features a large sterling silver frame inlaid with precision cut pieces of tortoise shell, turquoise, coral, mother of pearl, black onyx and various gem-like materials. The border was accented with exquisite hand stamped designs. The inlaid image is tight and smooth and absolute top quality work. This fabulous bolo measures approx 2 3/8" round and should be worn as a bolo by men or women. This bolo is hallmarked with the famous silversmith's two four-tine antler symbols. The leather is in great shape and measures app. 38" from tip to silver tip.
