I love Art Nouveau motifs (corrected: Sucessionist motifs, too), and came across this beautiful vase recently. It is quite different from the vases I usually like to collect, but I like it very much and it reminded me strongly of the Riedel vases that ozmarty recently posted. I had never seen anything like Marty's square Riedel vases before until he posted them, and now I have been doing research on this one. It measures 6" tall x 2" x 2". (These are the seller's images.)
UPDATE: Tomasz Krzeminski and Alisa Piedmont on the facebook bohemian glass board confirmed that this is Josef Riedel, and Tomasz was kind enough to also post a picture of the same vase in the Passau Glass Museum. Thanks so much for the help with the ID! Also, I added my own photo of the front of the vase.
I love the red décor and shape...great find!
Thanks, Lee! :)
-technically this is Vienna Secessionist style rather than Art Nouveau (I know - sorry for being pedantic) One of my favourite Riedel designs.
Manddmoir, no, not pedantic - educational - thank you! Secessionist is much more linear than Art Nouveau, I believe, and you are right that this doesn't have the organic lines of Art Nouveau. I always enjoy learning more from others! :) Have you seen this design before?
I'm green over your red vase.....gorgeous Michelleboo7!.....:-)
Lovely , hope this brings out some more for us to see .
Thanks, inky! :) I hope packing for your move is going well!
Thanks Marty - I owe finding this vase to you! :)
Yes I've seen the design only twice - at Passau -identical to yours- and I bought one with single circle at top and two lines going down -in a Budapest Auction (sounds impressive but I was on a specialist glass trip and the fine hosts put an auction on for us - in English!)
