Art deco dish or shallow bowl created by Svend Hammershoi (1873-1948) at the Kähler Pottery. This dish is among his later works - the design is very typical of what Svend Hammershoi made in the 1930's. The dish is covered with a wonderful black and white glaze (the so-called 'double glaze' developed by Jens Thirslund in 1926) with splashes of pink and turquoise.
I bought this dish from an acquaintance who often sells stuff on markets - he knows I like these things and had saved it for me. As you can see in the picture it has some chips around the edge - which doesn't really matter to me - so that's why it cost a very reasonable sum. The glaze on these things is very fragile.
Mark HAK (for Herman A. Kähler). Size: diameter 18.5 cm; height 5.4 cm
thats a fantastic glaze and design
