I am a fan of the old masters as you can tell by my images .I discovered , about 1 year after i purchased this painting (thinking it was Italian) that is after the original painted in 1713 by Adrien Van Werff a Dutch artist.Mine is on a thin 5mm poplar panel, have tracked some of the history of the painting via the previous owners label on the back .which states the name and the address as the "the old mill Sparkford Yeovil Somerset tel .nth Cadbury 427 Luckly i managed to speak to the previous owner who told me she was told that her grandfather bought it in the 1920s. hope this is of some interest.
Doesn't look much like Madona
I think it is called "Our lady of le leche " The Painting first started in Spain . I agree JSmed this one does not appear to modeled after Mary or Jesus . Nice old painting though :-)
Thank you Phildavid for your comments and your correction about from and to Egypt.Do you have any images from this Egyptomania book ?since my painting does not have a pyramid do you still think it comes from this era and what period are we talking about?
If is not Mary and Jesus .Who is the bloke in the background between the lady and the baby supposed to be?
