This ring has no markings whatsoever but I think it could be silver. I like the ring, even if it turns out that it not. When I found it, it looked rather sad. The metal was dark-grey and the engravings were almost not visible. I decided to take my chances because it was just a couple of dollars. When I cleaned it up it turned into a quiet handsome ring.
The ring is large and heavy and I thought that it could be a man’s ring but because of the engraved flowers I am not so sure. I don’t really care if it is meant to be man’s ring because it looks nice on my hand.
The last photo shows a ring I posted a few month earlier also with a carnelian.
Thanks for looking:)
Thanks, PhilDavidAlexanderMorris. I can't explain it rationally but I can kind of tell if an item is silver or not just by touching, smelling and cleaning it. This one "feels" like silver. When I get a bit more seriously into collecting, I will get myself a testing kit. Until then I follow my instincts.
I also think that you are correct with your suggestion that it might be Indian.
some of those style rings was also made of platinum
The darken patina in the engraving would lead me towards Phil's and your "Gut" feeling on silver. I would venture to say it probably is silver. the shine of the cleaned area also doesn't appear as, I use the term, "German Silver" or "Mexican Silver" would normally look, both of which have no silver content.
Thanks for your comments and thoughts, vanskyock24, kerry10456, and PhilDavidAlexanderMorris. I have some items made of Alpaca silver and German/nickel silver and they feel and look a bit different. I wish it was platinum but the blackish buildup on the ring suggest otherwise:(
Once again, thank you to all of you for your ideas and comments.
It does have the look of silver unmarked maybe if you knew what the stone is it may help what ever it's made of I like it very much & the design makes it, it's not over the top.
