Trunker

Just finished up restoring this nice Martin Maier Trunk. When I purchased this trunk all of the metal and hardware were painted lime green/gold and the inside had old felt glued in it. Had a terrible time getting all of the felt and glue off of it. The hardware parts were originally tin clad so I used silver paint to emulate the cladding. I have gotten lucky enough over the last year to pick up another MM trunk that is almost identical to this one.
WOW -- what a fabulous trunk and beautiful work on the restoration. This trunk is the pinnacle of trunk collecting -- they just do not get any better than this! May I ask how you came across it? They do not come up very often...
I keep my eyes open all the time. I live outside of Dallas, TX and there is over 7 million people living here in the area so I keep my on classified adds and estate auctions. There are so many estate auctions it hard to keep track of them all. I look at every picture for every sale or ad. I picked up this trunk cheap from a lady that was just dieing to get it out of her house. It was her mom's and her mom brought it from KY when they moved to the area.
Oh I LOVE comedy -- wish you could write it.... sigh. Still a great trunk!
Oh and thank you for the nice comments trunkman. Really I think the key to getting nice trunks is putting in a huge amount of time into looking for them.
What a beauty ! I love it :-)
its a fabulous trunk and beautiful work by you ....
Thank you manikin and ICollectglass!
Thank you Windwalker!
Double WOW - and I love the story how you came across it. Here in Western Massachusetts there are so many barns and attics that are holding these treasures - being in the right place at the right time. I wish I could leave my day job to be a "trunk hunter". Great refinish job - simply beautiful!!
Thank you for the nice compliment Sherwood. Many people out there have treasures and just have no clue as to there value. Another funny not on this trunk is that when I picked it up that they had looked all over this trunk for a date and could not find one. There is a patent date on the outside of both hinges as all MM Hinge/stay's have.
Wow! What a beauty! Wish they would have left it in Kentucky and that I could have been the one who found it and bought. Beautiful restoration job, too!
Beautiful job restoring the trunk. I don't have one of these in my collection still on the hunt for one - the thrill of the hunt is what keeps us going.
Thank you Kathy! I got lucky on this one. Keep your eyes open. You'll find one!
That is stunning!! You did an incredible job on this. The interior lining job is beautiful. You do nice work Trunker!!
BEAUTIFUL trunk! reminds me of samurai armor.
