Hello all, found this little guy this morning, pretty sure he's a US zone Stieff, he doesn't have an ear button but he shows Stieff characteristics , he measures approx 26cm tall, mohair is thinning a bit and he's got a nice blonde color. The tag is on his one arm and is worn and says "Doyle" on the back side.
During the Second World War, materials and manpower were so scarce that production had to be stopped. It was 1946 before Steiff resumed production with a ten-item line of stuffed toys. During the Allied occupation of Germany after World War II, toys had a special "U.S. Zone tag" in the arm seam.
I can not say for sure it is a steiff but I will get my book out and see if it refers to Doyle . Very Nice !

Looking at the name on the tag a bit closer, could it be "Boyle" ? Thought? I've done a lot of looking at pictures and references and I'm pretty sure he is a Stieff and comparing his construction to our other Stieffs leads me to believe he is.
I believe the name is Boyle myself and all I come up with is Teddy Roosevelt went to school in Boyle and that a Teddy Bear was the school mascot . Nothing in my book referring to this bear I do believe he is a Steiff also . Any sign of a tiny hole in ear?
I looked pretty close with a loop and couldn't see a hole ore maybe where one might have been, but, and this may be stretching it, if he was an early 1946-47 bear when they restarted production, maybe he never had a ear button being so close to wars end and materials were still very scarce. Just a thought. I too now believe he is 100% a Stieff, I did find a Stieff bear on a reference site with a tag identical to this on his arm seam but without the word "Boyle" on it. Hmmm.
