Has anyone come across a table like this and does anyone know the value?
I've heard this primitive table was used to measure fabric. Numbers are painted on the top of the table from 1 inch to 36 inches and has markings showing where the material was cut. The table measures 36 inches in length, 19 inches deep and stands 26 inches tall. As you can see it folds up.
I had a number of these back in the 1980's that I got in a salvage job in Milford, NH. The old textile mill in Milford was built after the war of 1812 because they couldn't get textiles. The mill was converted to senior housing and is listed in the national archives. The building where the women who worked the textiles was located was being sold and I salvaged the contents. The tables I got were made in Maine and almost exactly the same as yours shown above. They folded up and were stored in the room of the woman who was assigned that table. The women lived and worked in the same building. Back then I got $125 each for tables in good to excellent condition as I recall. They sold really fast.
Thank you so much for the quick response and the background info. Mystery solved!
