This is a British sterling silver tray. It was made in the 18th century around 1743 or 1773. I am not sure about the dates. It is quite heavy as was silver in that era. This tray has the roped design borders and handles. The handles are soldered to the tray. It is beautiful. My tray is rectangular and it is 8 1/2x17 1/2 inches long. This tray has a duty mark of a griffen that looks like a dragon on the front of the tray. There is no monarch mark which, brings me to believe that this tray may be from the 17th century. The marks on the back are: The Capital letter old english A in a shield, an asterisk, a leopard with a crown, and two swords crossed and there are two C's together at the bottom corner. Heavy patina on back and around the border. This tray was made before the monarch mark. I was thinking it may be a George the second or third but, they are monarchs. thanks.
Can you kind folks help me to pin down what and when this tray was made and by who and if it is valuable or not. I would appreciate any response you can give me. thanks.
