Found this unusual clock at the same estate as my previous posting (pair of funereal lamps).
Wooden frame with riveted (?) gilt metal front with lady face and dolphins details. Pendulum has a starburst lady face on it.
Movement reads "Farcot" and "Paris" with a number.
I can't seem to find any info about the maker, he's been mentioned a few times together with Japy Freres............?
Is there a name for a clock such as this and can anyone tell me more about the maker of the movement?
Thanks for looking,
Nessa
Hello DrNessa,
I'm not 100% certain but I think you have what is referred to as a repousse brass case cartel clock. Eugéne Farcot is a well known and highly regarded French Clock Maker who made clocks from about 1864 to 1888. Perhaps there are some French Clock collectors on this board who can be of more help to you.
If not, there is an entire thread dedicated to Farcot clocks on the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors message board at: http://mb.nawcc.org/showthread.php?20858-Post-Your-Farcot-Clocks-Here . An administrator there by the name of John Hubby has a serial number database and could no doubt provide a lot of information on your clock including when it was made. You would need to register as a user of the board, but most areas are free and open to the public. Yours is a very nice timepiece! Thank you for sharing it.
