I came across this old six HP Witte gasoline engine while hiking along the banks of the Guadalupe River about a mile from my house. It probably dates from the teens or 20's. It had a belt that ran a motor which ran a pump. It pumped water under the road to irrigate the fields. The crops are long gone, cattle are there now. Many parts have been removed over the years, however, it would look great with plants in it in my front yard.

I think you might need a mule & a stone boat to get that home! :-)

Walks, "stone boat" seems to be a term I seem to have missed over my few yrs on the planet.

Did they not have rocks & mules where you grew up?
We had the rocks & stone boats, but not the mules!
A stone boat is a heavy wooden sled to move stones or other heavy objects, they can be pulled by mules/horses/oxen/tractors/people.
A picture is worth a thousand words:

Walks, where I grew up was either too progressive or the people too poor to afford mules & I've only see a couple of mules. That was N.E. AL so you can guess. Mountains but oddly few large rocks in the fields.

I threw out the bait for the prejudiced Yankee's & got no responses. Actually, where I grew up in AL was highly industrialized & not much farming. The average intelligence level for the area was certainly higher than your legislators, but that's not saying much & certainly no standard to go by. LOL. Where were my antagonist like Roy & Phil when I tossed out that bait?
    12. walksoftly walksoftly, 11 years ago
I don't think anyone is going to take your bait B'buss.

So walks, am I supposed to re-evaluate the the D'Yankee intelligence level because I had no bites on my bait on an obscure forum? That would be against all my "up-bringing". LOL I like sparing with you. Maybe not much more interesting than watching a tennis to others, but I don't get a sore neck.
