I inherited this plate from my great grandmother when she passed last yr. I know nothing about it except shes had it as long as I can recall. It would be interesting to know what the markings mean, but mostly I just want to know how and if I can clean it. any input would be appreciated.

(something that looks like a flower or a bisected circle)

It will read EPNS.
Electro Plated Nickel Silver.
To clean or not? I think the top surface has little silver remaining. I might be wrong but it looks to be the colour of nickel. Underneath it still has silver remaining and would tolerate a liquid silver cleaner, once! From then on a silver cloth only, imho. The top might be a lost cause, sorry!
