Charming antique match striker carved from a nut - possibly coquilla or corozo - with a grotesque face, on three metal nails ( legs ). The eyes are tiny shells. It has a hollowed centre and ridged cut out section.
I love old carved nut and grotesque faces
its Approx. 6.5cm / 2½" tall.
I've seen a very similar item listed recently as being made in the early nineteenth century by a mariner on a long voyage; the legs are apparently made from ship's nails,may be pirates
