This Pottery Company is renowned mostly for their finely detailed animal figurines that are highly collectable but they also made some fabulous Pottery items like these three vases that are part of our collection/accumulation.
The J.W. Beswick Pottery Company was founded in 1892 by James Wright Beswick & Sons, John and Gilbert in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, England. In 1969, the company was sold to Royal Doulton and they continued using the Beswick name for the Animal Figurines for many years.
They made beautiful Vases in different sizes of the same pattern and these three vases are fine examples of their wares. They are all marked "Beswick Ware, Made In England". The Red "Fern" one in the middle was an Art Deco pattern introduced in 1934 and made till the 1960's. I have seen many examples in Green and Ivory/Tan but this Red High Relief example is stunning. It is marked Model #699 and measures 8" tall and 4" in diameter (rim). The Mint Green Model #1095 footed oval vase depicts a Nymph in relief being tempted by Pan with an apple. It is quite big at 10 1/4" tall by 8 1/2" wide by 4" deep. It was designed by Albert Hallam and James Hayward and was introduced in 1943 and made till 1963. The Royal Blue "PALM TREE" Vase is the most recognizable of the Beswick Vases and was made in many colors and shapes (platters, bowls, trays etc.) This vase is model #1064 and is huge at 11 1/2" tall and was introduced in the late 1930's- early 1940's.
We have candlesticks and other smaller vases made by Beswick but these three vases are very representative of the Fine Quality of Beswick Ware.
