This trunk came from Norway on the White star line Olympic via Southampton in 1928 (I have the passport). It was my maternal grandmother's. It was passed to my mother and then to me a few years ago. I have searched the internet for more information but, haven't found much. Does anyone know if this is a rare item? The trunk is not in great shape but it does have all of the hardware. If anyone has any thoughts, they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Lovely European trunk as you know. I would not say that it is "rare" as there were many trunks being assembled in small and large factories at the time similar to yours. The trunk is a bit older than its passage date, maybe 1910 or so. A utilitarian trunk for its day standard in size, construction and hardware. A great family heirloom to treasure for many more years... Welcome to CW and thanks for the post.

Thank you, trunkman. I was also curious about the sticker(s). I have tried to research them, also without much luck. Do they make the trunk more valuable? I am trying to make a decision to keep or sell the trunk. I really don't have the space for it and I would hate to just store it in the garage to deteriorate further. I understand that I am not allowed to ask for an appraisal here but, any insight on value would be appreciated. Also, should I consider refurbishing the trunk. Thank you very much.

It is a nice trunk but it does not have a high value. Look at similar trunks on some sales sites and local classifieds and you will get the ball park figure. The stickers give it a bit added value, however they are in pretty rough shape so not a lot there. The trunk almost looks like it was made out of plywood -- which seems odd -- so I will assume it is a pine body. Some like it all original -- others like them refinished. Usually I get a bit more for a refinished trunk and they seem easier to sell in my expereince-- make sure to work around the labels.
