    Here is a Julius Andrea candlestick with an original Red Cross mouthpiece and pencil holder attached to it. These mouthpieces had a small piece of rope/thread inside of them that would have been soaked with an antiseptic to help prevent the spread of diseases.

      Also, the reason they were glass was so they could be put in boiling water to disinfect them during the 1918 flu pandemic, right? Great phone Jerry!
