It is a Kerosene chimney lamp with kerosene tank made of glass and rest all part made of brass..sadly i don`t have the top glass(shade) which must be covering the flame...

It is called a Wall Bracket Lamp. It sat in a Brass ring that was held by a frame attached to the wall. It could also have sat in a receptacle brass base but I think it would have been a wall one because of the decoration on the lower part of the font. You are missing a wick and chimney and there may have been a mercury glass reflector on the wall bracket to magnify the light. It is an old one, probably 1870's and there should be some information on the thumbwheel that will help in dating it. RER

Thank you LOUNMANAl........i do have it wick.....but had kept it aside......on it`s thumbwheel there are two circles....inner circle has inscription as DIETZ & CO.....while the outer circle has the inscription as MANUFACTURERS *** (there r 3 stars inscribed,,,do that mean anything)......
and yes unfortunately i don`t have the glass top or chimney....
Kindly do help in dating it....

It's pretty well the info. that I provided as far as dating for the font but because of the wide-line collar, it could be later till 1890's. Dietz made the brass burner on this lamp but it does not mean that it was the original burner. If you Google Dietz & Co, you will find a lot of information on this company that was mostly known for making Commercial lighting equipment for transportation ie.. ships, trains and for City Street lighting. They also made burners for lanterns and Oil lamps. RER (BOB)

Thank u so much for the information......well google says that Dietz & co in london was renamed Dietaz, davis & co in1883.............so probably this piece is of before 1883
