Hi I was able to research this spool online. I came to the conclusion that it is a instrument string. The problem is I cannot find any pictures of a spool like this so I have nothing to refer it to. Also I can not find a listing anywhere that shows one of these sold. Lastly does the number 4 have any significance to the age or type of instrument. Thanks

Have you ever heard the term Bell wire? Try looking it up under that name and #4 would be the wire size as far as I know.

I believe it has a really thin coat of silver and was used to solder electronic parts.

Very well could be instrument or even jewelery wire also found in speakers in amps and other electronics. The marking "Silver Toned" made me think of the silver tone amps.
