Low Profile Trunk - new life with custom made wrought iron base

This low profile cabin trunk has been in my workshop for almost a year. It had a terrible hole in the front that my husband patched and I will place an old label (from another trunk) over it then stain, and then give it a make over - I am excited because my friend who is a blacksmith just finished the base for this trunk and I like the look. I will post photos later this week of the finished product. It is the perfect height for a living room or great room coffee table. My only issue is the leather sides it is flaking in some spots - any suggestions. Thanks Trunk Friends.
