Does anyone what this is? It was given to a friend 50 years ago. Looks like something for fine craftsmanship or an instrument of some sort. Brass or similar maybe silverplated.

I thought so first as well, but there are no markings for a scale and not really any hook to hang any weights on...
Something to do with pipe smoking?
Vetraio50, that's very interesting! Chopping up tobacco leaves and stuffing the pipe? Why not? It's possible. Fits well with the size and the appearance. No, sorry Theophile it's not for sale. Nutsabotas, it just wouldn't have any accuracy if it was a scale.
This is a flint knapping hammer and pick. The hammer shapes the new flint and the pick is for removing the old one.
Ah! For a flintlock rifle? That explains the pick and why the hammer's been hanging from a belt. Thanks!
Olofz. Yes for the old rifles. European, 1700's and quite rare to get knapper and matching pick together.
