This is a mold from the mid 19th century or maybe a little earlier. It was used to mold pewter spoons, and the spoon shown in the photos was made from this mold.
The mold is made of bronze and is quite polished where the liquid pewter flows up against. After the spoon is poured, all you had to do was to trim the flashing from the edges of the spoon and a usefull utensil was ready for the kitchen table.
Most people of the time used molded pewter spoons. They were relatively inexpensive, and you didn't need the skills of a silversmith to make them.
