Cast Iron Horse cart. it meaures about 1 foot long x 3 inches high. doesn't have any manufacturer markings but still maintains some of the orange red original paint. any ideas what all the holes were drilled into the cart ? they holes appear to be a part of the original design.

Thumb thru Happy Hooligan toys & see if you get a match. Has that look to me.

i looked up some early cast iron Happy Holigan item and was able to find a close match by the mfg Kenton. now i know what style of horse to purchase for this cart. Thanks!

Happy to help. Certainly no expert on iron toys but The H.H. toys have come up in the past & it just had that look.

I don't think this is related to the HH toys.
The holes were molded in, not drilled. It is missing the two bench type seats, they would set in the small notches.
I do not know who made this one but I don't think it was one of the more common companies. This is a rather rare wagon.

I will do some digging later to see if I can find you more info.

AZ, it'll be interesting to hear what you find out. I may have these seats but i'd have to do some digging.

I found one of the seats. it has the same holes feature.

Cool! I did find a photo of this wagon with the horse in my files and posted it on my pinterest. http://www.pinterest.com/pin/185069865911533385/

I do not have one of these so I never researched it. I will keep it in mind as I'm going through old catalogs.

You can edit your post and add photos with the seat.

AZT, using your pictures i think the horse i am looking for was made by Harris.
    9. AzTom AzTom, 11 years ago
I do not have reference of Harris with that horse.
If I were to guess I would say it was made by Shimer Toy Co. They are one of very few that nickle plated the entire item. The wheels look right and they have a horse very similar with that higher detail.

I'm guessing because all the reference I have seen of Shimer has the horse wheel up front. I can't think of any cast iron co with that single small wheel on the rear leg.

Well I tried to buy couple of old horses off eBay and got smoked by serious bidders. I guess I'm new to the cast iron world. Btw- thanks for the shimer info. I'll just check into antique shops this summer in upstate ny. Take care!
