    Dear Trunk Man—

I recently purchased a military issue Naval trunk or footlocker. It is wooden on all sides painted green with stenciled lettering, with the corners edged in steel or metal. It has a lid that slips firmly in place but is not hinged. After looking at all your postings I’m convinced I may have something that is rare because all other trunks on your site are hinged. Is this a WWI piece?

I would sooner think this is a shipping crate.

Thank you for drawing this to my attention -- I unfortunately am unfamiliar with war trunks and crates. It does appear to be more of a naval shipping crate or storage box than a footlocker or naval type trunk. The hand lettering on the top looks to be of an older era, so maybe it could date back to WW1 but that would only be a guess. Please write in your description what all of the lettering and numbers are so myself and other who know more could comment further.
