This vermeil brooch is a smaller version of a larger piece of filigree vermeil :
The Santa Maria is a caravel of Columbus. A caravel from Portugese is: a small, highly maneuverable sailing ship developed in the 15th century by the Portugese to explore along the West African coast and into the Atlantic Ocean) An unique little handwork brooch from about 18880!
The caravel of Christopher Columbus with the 4 authentic flags! This brooch has two.
(The flags "Red with White Cross", enameled, the emblems are the "order of Christ Knight").The caravel "Sao Gabriel" of Vasco da Gama (1469 - 1524), with he 1497 the sea according India discovered was also with these same Christ Knight Order Flag flagged! ! !
From Pope John XXII. was founded around the year 1320 this religious Knights Order. The original:Lisbon 1887 ("Marc Rosenberg") 833 silver god plated.
This brooch originating from France. I show a picture of the hallmarks but can not identify. You may be able to tell you about something more??

      This is really magnificent Agram!
Maybe I should start to look for the 'Nina', one of his other ships

Hello Agram, while searching for other information for myself I found photos on line with ships like this. In one case the very similar brooch was said to be made by a Company called Safir in portugal. When I searched 'filigree portugal' I found plenty of images of very similar brooches. You could do the same and see what information you can find about age and maker. Best wishes and have a nice weekend!

Elisabethan What a fantastic help detect the authenticity of my filigree brooch. It's not just for me, a good way to detect filigree jewelry but also for all other collectors.
And you help as this is definitely Portuguese filigree work! Once again thank you very much hope even to help you!
