Didn't really need to find anything else today. Picked this beauty up at the Salvation Army Family Thrift Store and couldn't wait to get it home and check online to see what I could find out about it. Can you believe almost nothing ?! Well, I did find a blue one like it on Worthpoint from 2007 but other than saying it was signed there was no other info. It's 11 1/2 in. tall and weights an incredible 8 lbs.! It has Cartier etched on the edge of the base and is small and hard to read. It was on the top shelf and I almost dropped it because I wasn't expecting it to weigh so much. It's in pretty good shape with some minor chipping in the satin glass base and a few scratches. There's what looks like a tiny air bubble in the corner top edge of the crystal too. I really don't think it's that old but so far I can't find another one with complete info to compare it to, but I'll keep looking. -Mike-

Wow! Wow! Wow! Getting jealous over here. I bought a deck of old cards today...empty hand syndrome. Well done Mike!

Thanks Amber.... it's driving me crazy though, There is not a thing about the manufacturer or date online. The only other picture I could find is of the blue one from a seven year old auction. Someone had to make this for them. I don't think they do their own in house glass. A bit of a mystery !

It looks like it has spots to me. Googled some of their images...

At Cartier they call them Panthères, but technically there is no big difference between an African leopard (Panthera pardus) and a south American panther ( (Panthera pardus) a jaguar as is called in South America, which can be either black or mottled as the Leopard). Then there's that other thing of North Americans calling Panthers to what's known as Puma in Spanish (Puma Concolor)

So even if both names Leopard and Panther are right, because of Cartier's name we should refer to them as" panthères" :D

The vase is amazing! won't they be able to help at Cartier?
    10. mikelv85 mikelv85, 11 years ago
They might austrohungaro.... I'm more interested in the manufacturer and the date of this piece. I don't think Cartier owns their own glass factory. I'm thinking it had to be made in France or Germany for them. I fully expected to see several online and that they were common, but now I'm beginning to wonder. If they made the white and cobalt colors there maybe others, but there is nothing online at all. They have the single crystal panther figures as well. That's all that comes up when you search Cartier Panther Vase. The panther appears to be their logo as well as having panther jewelry of various types. -Mike-

Thank you Sean, Amber, Austro, icollect , Phil and everyone for all the loves and help !! All I need to do now is find a production date. Seems "Royal Brierley" aka Stevens and Williams until 1967 closed their doors in 2000. The company is now owned and marketed by Dartington Crystal Ltd. So this has to be at least before then. Still searching for a catalog or other pictures and possible current value. -Mike-
    22. mikelv85 mikelv85, 11 years ago
Maybe an "anniversary" piece ? That's a thought icollect. Not sure of how old Cartier is as a company. Hundreds of years I suppose.
    23. mikelv85 mikelv85, 11 years ago
That might account for why there is very little online about it. If it were mass produced there should be a lot more images online I would think.

OMG !.....After all this time there is actually a new in box one on Ebay Germany. Even with mine being used and a few nicks at half the price would be amazing. :)

Funny you should mention that Ken. I had been watching for space to open up at the Main Street Antique Co-op in Oberlin over the past couple years. I stopped in yesterday and there was a double area in the back that's available. You don't have to be there every day they take turns with the other vendors running the whole co-op .The lady working that day told me you have to work there 5 days a month as cashier/greeter for the whole store and you get paid every two weeks for whatever has sold in your booth. There are 17 vendors there at the moment and they've been there 20 years so I think it a safe bet unlike opening you own shop with all the overhead and headaches. The rent is 300 a month but maybe the double space would be 600..ouch ! I haven't called the lady yet I need to talk to. She's a teacher and it's better to call after 6 o'clock. I'd really like to do this but I have zero rent money to get started. I did put my match safe up for auction hope that pans out. I'll know Saturday evening. :)
    28. mikelv85 mikelv85, 9 years ago
So that's why I have and even 20 views now...lol. Well Ken I did finally call the Main Street Antique co-op in Oberlin and talked to the owner. She actually works with my sister at the same nursing home as an instructor. What are those odds ! I waited a day and one of the old tenants decided to come back and took half the double I had been looking at. I told her I'd take the other half for sure. It's only 150 a month and plenty big enough for a start about 10' x15'. She has to leave town for the weekend and said she'd meet me Tuesday to finalize everything. So I should be able to start bring things in around next Wednesday. I also need a vendors license. Been there done that once already but I have no cases or shelving to put things on. Hopefully I can find some good deals on those things. So selling the match safe will help with those expenses till I get some sales going. I'm a bit nervous about being in business again but excited too. :)

Thanks so much OGF...it's really going to be hard parting with some of my collection but it's time and I finally have the opportunity. I've been checking back every year for an opening at this particular store. They almost never open up at this shop as some folks have been there 20 years. It's going to be and interesting Summer :)
