35" x 8" x 10" model of an improved fence. It is obvious this was used where wood was plentiful. Patented by Benjamin H. Hargrave, of Gallatin, Tennessee, July 8, 1879, patent no. 217,372.
It was coated with years of grime which I washed off and then treated with wood preservative to stop any further deterioration of the wood. It was painted with some type of red oxide paint. Interesting piece of our history.
