Green A&J Vaseline Pitcher Pre 1940?
I'm listing this as an unsolved mystery, because... I'm curious about the "if it's green, it's not Vaseline" rule.
This is a beautiful lil pitcher
It measures...
5 1/4 inch across the top
3 3/4 inches across the bottom
The bottom has A&J enclosed in a diamond shape, with the imprint "patent applied for."
I love A&J pieces. Not only are they nice pieces, the initials have a sentimental meaning as well.
Thank you for the loves
Leah
Agh
:)
You bought a black light!!!
This would be classified as uranium glass.
Thanks for the love...

Will the update be under black light though?
Hopefully. I have the hubster on the hunt. We're having a hard time finding a uv light bulb locally. Strange. I thought they were more readily available. But anyway, he is going to try to find one tomorrow. he's on the hunt, but didn't know why. LoL he's asked "and *why* do we need a uv light??" I told him to make the depression glass glow. I am very curious to find out just how many do glow. Does sherry have any green that glows?
The one I bought is a fluorescent type fixture.
I think every piece that Sherry has is green uranium except the orange swan.
The whole "if it's green, it's not Vaseline" confuses me.
Thanks for the love Kerry :)
That's what I was told.
Thank you nuts. I think it's pretty both ways.
Aim, the term "Vaseline" glass was a given name to a particular colored glass by collector, it is uranium glass, but yellow in color thus called Vaseline, correct term of the color is Canary, but over the years if it's uranium glass and a pale shade of yellow, it's commonly called "Vaseline" glass
Oops need to finish thought, so the "If it's Green" saying started lol
Hi Kerry :) thank you. I have learned all that, thanks to you and other wonderful cw members. The part that confuses me is that green doesn't glow. Even though I see it glowing in so many photos.
Now I'm confused, lol. the glow is promoted from the uranium particles molded in glass while its was produced, it is activated by UV light and will glow as long as light is on, won't afterwards
depression glass didn't have the uranium aim that's why it don't glow but the depression glass is very collectible to
as vanskyock pointed out, not all yellow or green glass has uranium partials in the glass, uranium glass is "depression" category glass also. There are examples of white and cream that also glow
Kerry LoL God luv ya, you're adorably funny.
Well now ya tell me Van LoL I'm just kidding.
I really like both depression, and uranium glass. Wonder which was made first. My confusion is on green glass, it's advertised all over the place as uranium., and they even have photos of it glowing.
Hey Aim,
I just bought a black light bulb at the home depo. Screw it in a lamp when curious.
Same era Aim just difference in molding prosess.

Hi AR, the hubster and I haven't found one in our local store.
Thank you Kerry xo much appreciated :)
;) I agree *¡*
WS, I think we posted at the same time. Thank you. So we have the cold war too thank.
PS Kerry, I love the uv flashlight
"if it's green it ain't Vaseline" is a easy to remember axiom to separate what was originally named canary colored glass from other uranium glasses. Here's a good website for Vaseline glass:

Great idea *¡*, that's what I love about the flashlight.
Thanks tc, that's awesome.
Thanks for the love...

I'm not that picky. Bright or dim, they're all beautiful to me. Thanks for the tip *¡* :)
The flashlights are good when you want to be discrete.
Can you imagine using that every morning for your juice? I almost picked up the juicer yesterday at an estate, but the chip stopped me from doing it. But using those as dinnerware and glasses you gotta wonder when did the family begin to glow!?!
you can find black light fluorescent bulbs at Wal-Mart and Lowe's around here; both the tubes and screw-in bulbs.

Thank you tc. My Wal-Mart doesn't have it in stock, but a neighboring one does. I'll try to get one tomorrow. Thanks again xo
It does have that day-glo look to it of uranium glass. Beautiful piece.
I need to get to Walmart.
this was made by Hazel Atlas for A&J and were marketed with beaters and reamers:
