This is an Original Swiss Reuge Singing Bird Cage. It is approximately 6 1/2 wide and approx 11 1/2" tall. Is there anyone that can tell us how to get the winder working? It constantly winds, without a stopping point.
The bird in the cage sings along with the music. when its working properly the birds beak and tail feathers move along with the tune.
we have taken the bottom off, but we dont know how to fix it to wind and begin the bird singing. I wiped off the dust and insulation that was worn/eaten away so that dust doesn't get into music box.
Sounds like the mainspring is broken. Like Phil suggested a clockmaker.
PhilDavidAlexanderMorris, did you see the new photo that I've added? My husband thinks he could possibly tear it down, he thinks it should be in the gear box. We live 20+ miles from the nearest Jeweler which is a friend of ours. But if my husband don't believe he could fix it without messing it up, I'll head that way Monday or Tuesday. Thank u so much.
pops52, the only person that I would believe could fix or adjust this would be a distance from us, he is a jeweler. Possibly Monday or Tuesday I'll visit. We live 25-35 miles from a small town. I pray that it can be repaired. Thanks alot for your help.
These are valuable and would be worth getting repaired. Good luck!

pops52, yes i've seen some of the pages on ebay etc on the value. But can't find a site where it would describe on how to get the turner knob to stop spinning, we hear a bit of the sound of the bird and love it. I'm sure we'd put with our many collections of vintage/rare items. we have a good many of vintage items. including an old canteen i believe from the 1800s. one day soon, i'll post more pictures of the other items. we also have a Mark1 Beaver gum ball stand with 3 gum ball machines. and tons more.. I'd like to know more on these items also. Maybe tomorrow evening, I'll begin posting more. thank you so much
As other have stated above, this is a "Clock Works" mechanism, the large round piece in center contains a "main" spring, which has broken by your description of problem, once a match is found, not a hard fix for someone who knows the workings of a clock/ clock work toy. Lovely piece, and hope I shed a little insight
thanks alot Kerry10456. I appreciate your help the jeweler that i know works with/on watches etc. I'm praying he can fix or send off for me.
I lost that posting I did 8 or so years ago. Like I mentioned my fave auction lost one of these. They had it in an auction by showing it on a preview day. At some point they had the birdcage out of the glass showcase and there must have been 10 or so people clustered around. Some guy must have put it under his coat and they suspected him but I don't know what happened after the crime. I think I heard it went unsolved. That must have been a big hit for the Waddingtons auction house. Got to watch what you put out and not run to show other people another thing. I find yours hugely more attractive. What a beauty with that red and gold fighting for attention. 10 out of 10 !~
